What to expect:
Massage Therapy
Techniques included in therapeutic massage: techniques will vary to accommodate the needs of each client
- Swedish massage: The most widely practiced massage. Focuses on muscle relaxation by targeting superficial muscles and increasing blood circulation.
- Deep tissue: firm pressure and slow strokes that targets deep muscles and the connective tissue that surrounds the muscles, also known as fascia.
- Trigger point: Defined as a focus of hyperirritability in a tissue that when compressed can be locally tender but may also give rise to referred pain and tenderness. Trigger points are usually due to overloaded muscles that create knots, so one part of the muscle is knotted and shortened while another part is being stretched, which may be causing the referring pain by then causing strain on another muscle that has the same attachment site as the overloaded one.
- Thai massage: combination of compression, acupressure and assisted yoga postures to help with range of motion.
- Hot stone: Allows the practitioner to ease into deep work with the muscles while applying less pressure and avoiding resistance from the muscle.
